cinema Balexert

Many years ago going to the movies in Switzerland implied a small cinema with velours seats and an intermission with candies. In the 1990′s, almost two decades after the other modern western countries, the cinema industry finally came up with the multiplex cult, beginning with Zurich’s Cinemax multiplex, now called Abaton. As that was the biggest multiplex in Switzerland , the French cinema company Pathé has meanwhile increased its own empire to include Bern, Lausanne, Luzern, Dietlikon, Basel and geneva, where it runs the biggest multiplex in Switzerland, the cinema Balexert.

But the Pathé group is among those fighting back with daring marketing concepts, including private screenings – for those able to afford it, an entire theater for you and 700 of your pals – and the Kino Pathé Dietlikon near Zurich is providing with screenings of live Opera performances from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. An interesting bit of promise for a part of our culture threatened by new technologies.

the first digital theater in Bern, the Westside cinema center belongs also to the Pathé Group.
